The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul is an international religious community founded in Paris in 1633 by St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac. Their mission is to live among and serve those who are poor, marginalized, sick, and abandoned — guided by humility, simplicity, and charity...

The Daughters of Charity serve through diverse ministries that reflect their mission to love and serve Christ in persons who are poor, addressing human needs in every dimension—spiritual, physical, and social.

  • Education:  Preschool to university, vocational training, lay formation.

  • Health Care: Hospitals, clinics, maternal & child health, elderly care.

  • Social Services: Food aid, shelters, work with orphans, migrants, refugees.

  • Spiritual Ministry: Parish work, chaplaincy, retreats, spiritual direction.

  • Advocacy & Justice: Campaigns for dignity, anti-trafficking, rights work.

  • Environment: Care for creation, sustainability, eco-education.

  • Prison Ministry: Visitation, reconciliation, family support.

Diverse Ministries

Global Presence

The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul (DC) can be considered as one of the largest Catholic congregations of women religious in the world with around 11,500 Sisters serve in about 97 countries across all continents.Their works include education, healthcare, social services, advocacy, and more.

Their international coordinating body, DC International Project Services (DC IPS), supports Sisters in low resource countries by acting as a fiscal agent, sourcing grants, and monitoring projects. Their Motherhouse is in Paris, France, and they remain directly under the authority of the Superior General of the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians).

St. Louise de Marillac Asia Province

The St. Louise de Marillac Asia Province covers nine countries (including the Philippines) in Asia. Its ministries include education, healthcare, disaster response, environmental advocacy, and social justice. The province manages 17 schools and universities, healthcare centers, and shelters for women, children, and migrants. San Juan de Dios Hospital and College is part of the Province’s health and education ministries.
